how to increase gain in microphone channel?

I have a cmedia pci on-board sound card on my amd mobo. I'm using suse 8.1. My 
microphone produces very little sound, is hard to hear your voice at all. And 
I can't find a way of increasing the gain. No gain options on yast hw sound 
setup, or kmix, or smix or gnome colume control. Can somebody help me?
