Hi!

kmix (as almost every other mixer) gives you two controls -
playback and recording. The red button on bottom chooses the
recording source, you can leave it bright (on). The green button
on top shows that the channel is being played, means it
amplifies every input it gets from your microphone and passes to
the speakers. You can try to turn off the playback completely by
clicking on the (bright) green button, or simply slide the
volume regulator down. Should help :)
