ripping dvd

DVD Decrypter is my choice for ripping (just copying) dvd to my HD over 
Windows. What about ripping DVD in linux?
What are (if there are) the best programs?
I prefer something that rips subtitles (embeded or not) too.

Also I need something to compress to DIVX OR MPG.
