I have 4 different SuSE systems here, all with different audio cards, and I
didn't have this problem...
Which audio card are you using?

You can try some test: first, if you try to log from a console, how are the
things going? It is the same or not?
Secondly, are there any errors reported in /var/log/messages during
startup? And during audio initialization? And after you delete and
reinstall the audio card?
Also, what's the output of the command lsmod? Does it show audio modules?
Are they the right ones (the ones for your card)?
