Re: direct access to sound device not possible

I've got a similar, if not the same problem.
I've been busy as hell lately, and haven't had time to dig deep, but my
issue
is that I get no sound. The only app I've tried is XMMS, and played a bit
with SuSE's mixer.

(I did check to make sure the headphones were plugged in properly).

Is there an app out there that can tell me what's going on? I did have some
trouble with Artsd (which I'm running now) on Redhat up until the time I
switched to SuSE a week or so ago.

I really don't have to have sound at this point, but it would be nice.
