Yep, had the same problem, which appears to be tied up with the pcm module. 
You will find it will play sound from mic and the line inputs.

I sent a report to SuSE on this and then installed another sound card which I 
had sitting around. 

I have not tried using the VIA 82xx with the updated kernel which was 
installed the other day.
