Okay, I'm making some progress, thank you. If I 'Play File', and enter
/dev/cdrom, it works.

However, it doesn't seem to default to this file. When I select Play File, the
Load File dialog appears, but only set to the /dev directory. I either have
to navigate to cdrom on the right-hand pane, or type 'cdrom' into the
'selection' box.

When I look at Preferences/AudioPlugins/cdread/configure, the default device
is set to /dev/cdrom, I've tried clicking on 'Add to Playlist', but that
still doesn't make it come up as default next time I use xmms.

Configure for cdaudio has /dev/cdrom as the device, /media/cdrom as the
directory, which seems correct. I tried changing the latter to /dev/cdrom,
but no joy.

I also manually changed the filesel-path in .xmms/config to /dev/cdrom, but I
still need to manually select cdrom each time.

Okay, it works, but it's a bit of a PITA. Any ideas on how I can set the
default for Play File to /dev/cdrom? If not, thanks anyway, at least I can
now listen

Cheers,
