OK, Let's see,
What does the command:
rpm -q alsa
give us?
and you might want to perform a:
cat /etc/modules.conf
Which will list all the modules on your system.  We're only interested in the 
alsa modules but it will be handy to know.
for instance on my machine....
cat /etc/modules.conf

options snd-emu10k1 snd_enable=1 snd_index=0
options snd-rme9652 snd_enable=1 snd_index=1 snd_precise_ptr=0
options snd snd_cards_limit=2 snd_major=116
