After a *lot* of googling, this is what I found:

#/sbin/chkconfig --list sound
sound: unknown service
#/sbin/chkconfig --list alsa
alsa: unknown service

Might have to do with that. xawtv shows the same problem. XMMS and mplayer 
work nice on playing .avi and .mp3s.
