Dear SuSE customers, We would like to announce that we have just made available instructions for running Oracle 8i (8.1.7) and 9i (9.0.1) on our latest SuSE Linux 8.0. Please note - again - that our and Oracle's focus is on the Enterprise Server product line, and that this SuSE Linux 8.0 (Personal/Professional) will not be actively tested, supported or even Oracle-certified. However, since we know that many customers run Oracle on Linux as a development platform, for testing or for learning, and that for these purposes our "regular" SuSE Linux Personal/Professional product line is most often used and not our higher-service Enterprise Server product line, we have made installation tests with Oracle 8.1.7 and 9.0.1. If you need Oracle and/or SuSE support SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 is neeeded. The new webpages include a short description of what we actually tested.
