On a HP DL580 with 12 GB of RAM ( Intel Xeon - 32 bits),
We are running the following config in a demo environment without any
major incidents.

* PAE is enabled at the hardware level ( probably not relevant for EM64T
)
  and you use a big-smp kernel (2.6.5-7.257-bigsmp)

* You increase /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax to something like 4294967295
  and /proc/sys/kernel/shmall to something like 2097152

* You use indirect buffers && "old style memory" allocation in your
init.ora

use_indirect_data_buffers=TRUE ( Big performance hit I guess)
db_block_buffers=445000
db_block_size=8192

We can open a database till 6 GB of SGA.
(our SGA is 4.3 GB right now in this environment though).

Subject: [suse-oracle] FSI TX200 S2 and main memory > 4 GB

Hi,

we are running SLES9 SP3 and Oracle 10.1.0.5 with
4 GB main memory.

Box can run up to 12 GB.

Up to what main memory size is it possible to run
32 bit Oracle and 32bit SLES?

We tried 64 bit Oracle and SLES but had 20% performance loss.

Anybody running > 4GB with 32 bit?

We do not plan to use more than 1GB for Oracle SGA.

regards,

Toni
