Patch is not required if you dont use iSCSI. No, as I know, Novell had such 
patch long ago (from other users) and never integrated it. (I dont see how I 
can send patches for such purpose - no good feedbacks with them).

FS are - I used reiserfs (with 'notail' option) in sles9 and ext3 in sles10. 
We experimented with xfs @ sles10, and it looks promising, but I'd better 
avoid it.
