You must UPGRADE to the last kernel. Plain sles10 sp2 is not fully oracle compatible (had a serious bug).

On the other side, if you have la 4 with idle 99, it means that you have sticked IO or sticked NFS io somewhere. Run

 ps auxw | grep D

and show all processes with D in status. Then check

 iostat -kx 5

output (second reading; it repeats it every 5 seconds)

  I might have to take it back (what I've said before about minor problems after upgrade to Sles 10 SP2) 

  For 2 day now we have a strange one : during the day, the production server begin to have an increasing loud (up to 7 or 8) until the point of messing up the nfs server (we assume that the nfs server is stop working properly because of high load) ! Problem is that after we shutdown all the aplication server and only with the OS left , we still have load on the system ! Top show that we have load average : 4.10 at 99.5 idle cpu !!! We had to do a full restart of the systems so that they came around. What I can't understand is : 
    a. how can a system have 4.10 average load with 99.5 idle cpu ?
    b. it is possible that top doesn't perform well on smp systems ?
    c. it is possible to have a process (responsable for load) that it's not seen by top command ?     


  Any ideea is more than welcome !
