This is first problem with SuSe. Second is that they do not pay much attention to yast2 (keeping numerous problems , for example why I can't configure PPTP via it in a few clicks; why backups are not well configured thru it, etc), whichj is really one of the best thing s in SuSe. Third, while their beta testing is closed, they will always have releases of the beta quality so we always mneed to wait few updates until system becasme stable (it is true with sles9 sp4, sles9 release, sles10 sp2 - all 3 was unusable until few updates, just because beta testing was not adequiate). if you compare with rhel - they use open beta program so people start making software for the new releases before they are cleaned into the production, and it allows to test betas so well that official updates are almost error-less. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Oxiel Enrique Contreras Vargas" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, September 15, 2009 7:33 AM Subject: Re: [suse-sles-e] What do you think about an openSLES distro? I think it would very good for Novell. I mean, most of RHEL installations i've seen in production were first CentOS, most new admins, just graduated admins and undergraduates "admins", have in their minds, that CentOS is a rock solid distro, which they can play and learn, so they'll be prepared to work in a production environment with no hassle at all because they ever used it. Kids at any university or new admins entering to linux, first ask, what to learn ?, that can lead them to little effort and updates (security patches, bugs, etc) while been low cost or even better free?, hard to say that our beloved SuSE doesn't have an equality to that situation. So that's why i think Novell could get in there, and earn minds and hearts with all this rookies, making them taste all we like from SuSE, and guarantying them that their time invested in learning this "SuSEOS" or else name will be the same as SLES when they do solid work. My few cents. Best regards Oxiel El Monday 14 September 2009 14:08:58 Alexei_Roudnev escribió: > Other option is to maintain some opensuse support for a long time.
