Dear Austin,

check Metalink for "filesystemio_options xfs reiserfs ext3". If you have 
to use filesystem-based datafiles, you'll make use of 
filesystemio_options for sure. The documents found will show what 
options are possible with what filesystem. For example, on XFS you can't 
use both "AsyncIO" and "DirectIO" concurrently (afaik still valid for 
10i on SLES10), whereas ext3 allows to use both optimizations.

And if you can, go for ASM.
