No, ASMlib only. ASM is a great thing, esp with the new 11.2 GRID.

But ASMlib is a little strange thing. <aybe it helps somehow. But everything
works pretty good withot it.

What we did:
- use multipath and assign aliases to teh disks.
- so we always have
 /dev/mapper/OCRDisk, /dev/mapper/CSSDisk, /dev/mapper/DB01 etc disk names
(no matter what is behind)
- if using raw, I run my own script to make raw disks symlinked as
/dev/rawnames/OCRDisk, etc etc, but new Oracle allows to run
ASM on the normal disks.

After it (with new oracle which don't need raw) I do not understand why
someone wants one more layer between the disks and oracle... Interesting
thing is that
oif disk is formatted vya ASMLib it wil not work via raw (or normal) access,
and vise versa.

PS> There is a speculation that ASMLib was created to allow clustered volume
manager for ASM, which never materialized.
