I see that kernel only takes +RW media as RW only when it's virgin.
try:
modprobe pktcdvd
pktsetup dvr /dev/hdc [if your drive is hdc]
mkudffs /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0
mount /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0 /mnt -o rw,noatime

If you still experience problems, try:
cdrwtool -d /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0 -q
or format the media and mix dvd+rw-format with this tools.

I'm experiencing bad sectors on new media, I guess is cause my burner is 
external and goes trows usb-storage, but data never get's wiped. If you see 
that don't care.
