It appears that you don't have the packet device driver loaded.  Make 
sure you have the module built, installed, and either configured to auto 
load, or manually modprobe it and try again.

In 2.6 ide-scsi is obsolete, and scheduled for removal iirc.  Ditch 
ide-scsi and just use /dev/hdc ( or whatever ) directly.
