Hard to tell.  Unfortunately, interest in PPC died when the devs
decided to drop support with 11.2, and didn't tell anyone untill 11.2
was released.  I didn't have the ability to beta test for that release
so I didn't find out until it was too late to try to make a
difference.

Far as I know.  However, I was under the impression that the newer
versions defaulted to /dev/sda and that if you had a cd, it would try
to open it instead(ran into that a few times).  Hard to tell.

Unfortunately, it's probably in a similar state as our factory.  They
are focusing on 64bit, & the 32bit version is pretty much untested, so
YMMV.
