Überwachen eines Log-Files

Hallo *,

wie schaffe ich es z.B. /var/log/messages zu ÃŒberwachen und bei 
auftreten eines bestimmten Strings eine Aktion auszulösen?

Am besten wÀre es wenn ich dass mit einem Shell-Skript oder mit Perl 
machen könnte.

Gibt es da eine einfache Möglichkeit?
