How to build gcc 3.x on a SuSE 7.3 sparc system?

I have tried with different minor versions of gcc 3 to build it on my
SuSE Linux 7.3 sparc system (installed on an Ultra 1).
I get errors with each version. The errors differ a bit from minor
version to minor version, but they all seem to have something to do with
a non-compatible glibc.
Of course, I have tried to build a newer version of glibc on my system
because of this, but that also fails.

Has anyone here succeeded in building and installing gcc 3.x on a SuSE
Linux 7.3 sparc system?
