Sparc 20-MP

Got into trouble when running a 2.4.23 SMP kernel on a Sparc 20-MP. 
The system seems to freeze unconditionally. No log entries whatsoever. 
No more freezes after removing one CPU.

Anybody out there any idea about this ?
