LVM problems with newer kernel...

Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone else is having a problem with LVM or if
anyone has any advice for my problem:

I have installed SuSE 7.3 using the LVM configuration for two disks and
two volume groups. No problems with the install or recompiling a custom
monolithic kernel... sweet as can be...

If I download a pure 2.4.18 kernel, using the same compile options as my
2.4.14 kernel (no, not the same .config file...), my machine freezes
during boot cycle. If I install using the LVM from the 2.4.14 kernel and
configure my logical volumes at that time, can I not use a newer kernel?
I'm stuck.

Thanks in advance.

Scott
