make a new kernel on station 20

Hi , i' ve a sparc station 20 with suse 7.3, the machine is no really fast 
but is not bad , the default kernel is 2.2.20 , but i need to use the newest  
kernel 2.4.16, so i've  already recompiled the kernel on i386 machine , so i 
know HOW-to , the difficult that i find on sparc station is : every time that 
i run the command make vmlinux ( afte make dep & make clean ) after 30 
minutes it give me the follow message 

" undefined reference to ' show_trace_task'  "
Make : *** [vmlinux] errror 1
 
I had the same problem with my sun ULTRA1 but i find a file .config that save 
me , but unfortunelly the same file do not work on sparc 32 !
