Ultra 1 boot net/install: module inst_mode does not work

Dear List-ers:

Am attempting an install of v7.3 onto an Ultra 1  (happen to be doing it,
with Matthias' help, over bootp and tftp...)

All is going OK with the kernel boot, and mount of the install CD.

However, install stops after selecting the timezone with the error:

The module inst_mode does not work

I cannot Retry or Next from this dialog with success.

Has anyone seen this before??
