RE: telnet question

Ah, my favorite question :-)

This is a really simple thing to fix. When you log in check your term
display like this:

$ echo $TERM (press enter here)

It will probably reply:

linux

This is the problem. To fix this with bash, type:

$ export TERM=vt100 (press enter here)

check your work:

$ echo $TERM (press enter here)

vt100

vi should behave now. BTW, the command to remove a shell variable is
unset.
