Hi all,

I've noticed that a bunch of folks on the list are running quad 142/1MB (or
dual) HyperSPARCs in their SS20/10. I have the opportunity to buy some of
these for a good price, to upgrade from my current dual 100/256kb Ross CPUs.
My current setup is often CPU bound with just me on the box over xdm and
some apps/services running.

For those of you using these CPUs, two questions:

- how's the performance? Can you compare it to the dual setup I have now, or
to an ultra 2 (probably an ugly comparison). Will I really notice faster
performance? My main apps are apache, samba, Yast2 (oink oink), gimp and
(unsuccessful) attempts at running quakeforge.

- how's the heat? I've read some usenet archives on setting up external fans
to draw air out of the chassis, anyone else out there had to do this? This
system has a couple of SBUS cards, two 7200 rpm disks and a full helping of
RAM/VSIMM. It lives in a smallish room with no A/C. With the dual 100s, I've
had not problems, although I often leave the door to the room open as it
get's quite warm.
