Kernel 2.4.20

Dear listmembers,
today I had an unexpected system crash - unfortunately I cannot give more
than this information. The system froze entirely, the last messages in
/var/log/warn:

Dec 12 09:59:11 oekalux08 kernel: RPC: garbage, exit EIO
Dec 12 09:59:11 oekalux08 kernel: nfs_read_super: get root_inode failed
Dec 12 09:59:11 oekalux08 kernel: nfs warning: mount version older than
kernel
Dec 12 10:08:31 oekalux08 kernel: Unable to handle kernel request at virtual
address 0000000000010000

Then the reboot starts again. Other messages are:

Error reading kernel symbols - Cannot allocate memory

and 
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2

The letter might be caused by the fact that the root - fs has not been
mounted at that time. There are other messages I would not assume to be of
significance this time. Any ideas? Help is highly appreciated. I have a
feeling that there is somethin out of order with nfs. I use a Ultra 60 with
dual processor.
