Don't forget Gentoo, but its source based and compile time is long on a sparc5. Also, grab the newest gcc 3.2-25 (sept-02) rpms, Kde 3.1 compiled just fine with it. You can get them at ftp.suse.com/pub/people/kukuk/SPARC While the newer releases would be nice, unless sun releases gfx drivers for the Sun 3D cards, I don't see much reason in upgrading my current Sparc Linux distro. BTW, just got added a PPC machine to my collection, was going to try SuSE, but Mandrake released its newest 9.1 distro for PPC. (too many machines, too many distros...) -----Original Message----- From: Witvliet, Hans [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 7:45 AM To: 'Tom 'spot' Callaway'; [email protected] Subject: [suse-sparc] linux4sparc support; was [suse-sparc] SPARCstation 5 Online Update Hangs So Does this means that http://www.auroralinux.org/ and debian are the only active option? I heard on the list, that there are allready "rawhide"-based rpms available... For what its worth, this announcement only affects Sun's x86 Linux offerings, it has no effect on Sun's Linux/SPARC strategy (which is to pretend that it doesn't exist). ~spot --- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
