Upgrading from FC3->Tao 4 Instructions

Hello all,

     It seems like it is pretty easy to migrate a system from FC3 to  
Tao4. At least I have run into any problems, and my dev machine  
worked flawlessly. Here is what I did, as I was upgrading a new  
installation of FC3 I made sure comparing the different rpm -qa  
outputs on my dev machine with my live machine that the package lists  
were identical. Then here is what I did to both machines.


Download yum, tao-release, tao-yumconf and install on the FC3 box, -- 
nodeps and --force are necessary here because FC3 has a newer yum and  
tao-release conflicts with redhat-release.

yum check-update will list all files available to update.

I had to manually download and install glib2 & glib2-devel as the FC3  
machine has newer ones, and yum can't resolve some dependancies  
without the older Tao4 packages. Once those two packages are  
installed, simply run yum update. This will update all packages that  
are newer in Tao4 than FC3. It leaves a handful of FC3 packages. To  
find these I simply did rpm -qa | grep FC3 to find them. Download all  
the packages from tao-linux and then do a rpm -Uvh *rpm --force to  
install all the Tao4 packages that are older than the FC3 ones. I had  
to use --force because well FC3 had newer packages, there were no  
conflicts besides the "(already installed which is newer)" messages.

Make sure you've downloaded the newest Tao4 kernel from the updates  
portion of the download site. Install that (I did it at the same time  
as the rest of the packages above).


This leaves only fedora-logos left which I downloaded redhat-logos  
and it replaced fedora-logos. I double checked my grub config file  
and everything seemed a Okay so rebooted, up comes a Tao-4 box.
