Why not ReiserFS? I have been quite happy with it and it is in the unsupported kernel package. Much less hassle. I tested all journalled filesystems again about a year ago and performance wise XFS and Reiser were about as good. JFS was dissapointing because it couldn't handle big directories. It died when there were over 80 000 files (or something similar, it was a year ago.), so it can't be used.
