oowriter fails to launch

I just installed openoffice.org-1.1.0-16.14.EL with yum. When I try to 
write oowriter I get this error:

   Checking for existing user installation ...   ...   NOT FOUND
   Performing first-time installation for user ...   ...   FAILED

Happens with a regular use as well with root.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is there anything I could do to get 
oowriter running?
