Tao hangs on pcmcia start in Compaq Presario 2100

Anyone ever had something similar to this? Even after upgrading the kernel (2.4.21-20.1.TL1), the 
machine hard-freezes at any attempt to start the pcmcia service, either at boot time or from the 
command line. For what it's worth, here's the output of my "lspci -vv" attached.
