I do not want software raid for an array that will be booted off so I wanted hardware raid. The Silicon Image controllers claim to be doing hardware raid when in fact, they are not (same as Promise). When you run Tao install you will still see 4 separate disks attached to the controller instead of 1 array. I could complete the install but then the machine would not boot from the `array' no matter what configuration I tried. Probably if you do not need to boot from the array you can very well use the SI controller, but I want my box to boot no matter what happens. After this disappointment I did not try any benchmarking on it, I just disabled it (now I know why the SI raid option only costs USD 10 :) I guess I got what I paid for) Best regards! Remco
