OpenSwan (www.openswan.org) is the "continuation" of FreeSwan, it is indeed 
a pain to install and configure. But has proven to me to be quite solid...

They have rpms for rhel, I haven't tried to install them on Tao...

It is said on their site that the kernel of RHEL has all the necessary 
patches to run openswan, only the distro (or rpm) could be installed and 
used...
