That indicates that the file was damaged by the time you ran gunzip
against it. I don't recall if Oracle provides MD5SUM values or not, but
if they do you should verify it. If they don't or if it fails, you'll
need to download it again.

 i downloaded the file oracle10g ship.db.lnx32.cpio.gz but when i try to
run
gunzip ship.db.lnx32.cpio.gz it says not in gzip format. thanks for your
help
