trakker 450 install problem follow up

/proc/parport/0/autoprobe contains:

CLASS:TapeDrive;
MODEL:T1000e;
MANUFACTURER:Hewlett-Packard Corp.;
DESCRIPTION:HP Colorado T1000e;
COMMAND SET:QIC-117;

file /dev/qft0 returns
character special file 27/0.
This is after a make of ftape-tools-1.09.
ftmt -f /dev/qft0 status returns device not found which is reasonable
since file shows that as character special file 27/0.
Anything else need doing at this point?
