thanks for your answer!
I doubt that precompiled binaries would solve my problem - even if they existed (I am using gentoo linux www.gentoo.org...).
It's a pity that this list (and ftape development ...?!) seems to be dead.
But I am still hoping that Mr Heine himeself will answer me and/or the list.
Otherwise, perhaps I can gather enough knowledge and time to fix the problem myself.
