ftape under kernel 2.4.20?

I've been trying to get ftape to compile with a stock RH9 2.4.20-8 kernel, and 
the snag I have is that it won't!  I get many messages about invalid 
preprocessor tokens when I try 'make'.  I have set all the path variables in 
MCONFIG to the correct values.  I hear that there is a macro problem with 
2.4.x kernels.  Is this correct and, more importantly, is there a way to get 
ftape 4.04a to work with 2.4.20 kernels?
