Well, I made some progress on my problem. I made the mistake assumption that the drive could handle other tapes of lower capacity (like 120 meg tapes) just like it could under the Windows software (maybe it's a sofware issue and not hardware?). I had a couple of 250 meg tapes and 'tons' of 120 meg ones. It looks like the 250 ones work just fine with no errors being reported. A test tar store and recover works perfectly. So I guess the obvious question is, do I need to change something in the configuration (or a command line option) in order to be able to the use the 120 meg tapes?
