Sourceforge has been rejecting the mail complaining this:

It doesn't seem to matter what I take out of the mail, so I'm just going
to split it in several smaller messages. I have absolutely no idea why
sourceforge thinks that nxagent isn't an allowed topic..



I've been doing experiments on how to improve the performance of LTSP5
thin clients. After many unsuccessful attempts, FreeNX's nxagent
component shows some great promise to improve LTSP graphics performance
especially on lower end thin clients. Using nxagent only for roundtrip
suppression means that there's no need to do any changes on the ltsp
root image and all changes are server based. This approach is quite
different from the scripts using nxclient with LTSP as this uses
ldm/gdm/whatever to login and no nxclient is needed. Also localdevs,
audio etc. work without changes.

nxagent is a virtual X server that runs on the LTSP server and the X
applications connect to it instead of the thin client's X server.
nxagent replies to the X requests locally and also reduces the number of
requests sent to the real X server. I haven't dug into all the details
on what nxagent does, but it seems to reduce the number of packets sent
to the thin client by 60-70% in some cases.

The setup is experimental, but seems to work. There are some problems
with failed session starts when logging in and problems with hanging
processes when logging out. Also the performance impact on the server is
still unknown. Feel free to test it though.

Has anyone done similar experiments? Or do you know of any caveats using
nxagent this way?
