Oli-

I actually ran the test between two computers. No aufs or unionfs
involved.

On computer A (the client), I mount an sshfs mount to computer B,
say /tmp/home
Then, still on computer A, I mount a tmpfs on a mountpoint
within /tmp/home, say /tmp/home/testmnt
Then, I write a file to /tmp/home/testmnt/gadi
On computer A, I see the file /tmp/home/testmnt/gadi
On computer B, I see no such file.

This is kind of what I expected. Now, your question about aufs vs.
unionfs makes me think I have the whole concept wrong in my head. :)
