I basically just followed the guides provided on gettext's website and so assumed that it's the right way of doing it. I never heard that scripts are magically translated without them (I don't use a translated system so ...) and if so I don't really see how I'm supposed to extract the strings to translate in order to generate the .pot without having them use gettext's function and xgettext. Please provide more information on how that magic works, otherwise I'll just go ahead with what upstream gettext says (we can still check for gettext.sh and if not present just use a regular eval instead of eval_gettext).
