Performance of Debian/Lenny's Evolution over LTSP

Having recently updated from Debian/Etch to Debian/Lenny,
my LTSP user is complaining than Evolution (the mail client)
performance has become significantly slower, and it certainly
does have a more clunky feel than it used to, with "Formatting
message" and things in the notification bar seeming to appear
for much longer than they do when the app is used on the server
console.
Other things they use (well, Firefox, eog and that's about it)
perform just as well as they did under Etch.
Any suggestions for what I can do about this or how to
diagnose the root cause ? (Besides "don't use bloatware" :^).
Thanks
Tim
Client is a 1GHz diskless Via thingy (512MByte RAM),
server is a 2.4GHz P4. 100Mbps net. Using LDM_DIRECTX mode.
