My roadmap for Ubuntu Karmic

Hey,

Now that Ubuntu 9.04 is released and partying is almost over (still have
the release part on Thursday in Montreal) it's time to think of what
we'll do for the next release.

Here's basically what I plan to be working on for the 6 months to come
(Ubuntu Karmic):

 - Get all of LTSP-Cluster packaged, fixed, cleaned up and uploaded
 - Support for local applications starting softwares on the server and
have that cleanly integrated with MIMETypes (ltsp-remoteapp). I already
have a prototype but it'll need a lot of cleaning up and the MIME
integration is still to be done.
 - Local applications correctly integrated with MIMEtypes on the server.
 - Compiz detection support. I already have that working for a few
demonstration setups but it's ugly and would need to be discussed with
the compiz packager to idealy have one solution working for both regular
desktop and thin clients.
 - Get translation correctly working without the language-packs being
installed (currently ldm-dialog isn't translated unless gnome's langpack
is instaleld).
 - Support for scanner (using saned and configuration file written in
the user's home directory)
 - Let the user choose if he wants a secure session (LDM_DIRECTX=False)
or insecure session (LDM_DIRECTX=True) and show a warning if the session
is insecure. (All that would be tweakable as lts.conf option, default
would be what we have now).

Because it's things we have to integrate at Revolution Linux, I may also
be working on some NX and ICA integration either directly in ldm or as
separate screen.d scripts.

For Ubuntu LTSP-related things I have:

 - Get rid of ipconfig and use udhcpc instead so we have a real dhcp
client that'll renew its leases.
 - Support for i386 chroot on amd64 if Internet is available at install
time.
 - Fix iTalc (a few remaining crashers ...)

For ltsp-cluster I have:
 - Rewrite our control center to be a lot more modular and improve the
user friendliness.
 - Get rid of ltsp-cluster-lbclient as it's not used anymore
 - Write a loadbalancer agent for Windows for RDP loadbalancing

That all and the other things that'll come along the way should keep me
busy for the next 6 months or so.

I hope that knowing what I'll be working on/break in the months to come
will help other distros coordinating so we can get all that rock solid.
