So, after starting an emergency root canal on Wednesday afternoon (my

doped-up on Tylenol 3's to make it into work. So, I stayed home, and in
between naps, did some hacking.

I've picked XDM for the moment, since it's a) simple, b) well understood by me,
and c) doesn't depend on any dbus or other more complicated bits.

So, I've actually managed to get it to authenticate. It still fails, since as
part of the auth process, it proceeds to look up stuff in /etc/passwd, which
of course, is empty, but it DOES pass by the auth stage.
Interestingly, $DISPLAY isn't set by XDM during auth, which is discouraging,
because it means I have to set it manually in order to get the ssh to launch.
I'll be doing some hacking with the session script on and off today and this
weekend. Keep an eye on the bzr archive for updates, and tracking progress.
I'll keep you all posted.
