LTSP 5.3 will be tagged tomorrow at 19:00 UTC

Hey everyone,

For these who aren't in #ltsp (you should), a lot of work has been
done in trunk lately, to get rid of a lot of old code and move most
ltsp-build-client plugins into init scripts running at boot time on
the client.
That and a lot of other changes, mostly for fat clients, nbd-proxy and
well, pretty much everything else :)

As I mentioned earlier, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS will enter in Feature Freeze
tomorrow at 21:00 UTC.
So whatever feature we want to have in this Ubuntu release needs to be
implemented by then, which is pretty important as 12.04 will be the
first release with 5 years support of the desktop, including LTSP and
Edubuntu.

As such and after discussing it on IRC with Vagrant, Alkis and whoever
else was there, we're planning on calling this LTSP 5.3.
As a reminder, I tagged LTSP 5.2 exactly two years ago for Ubuntu
10.04 which still ships nowadays with LTSP 5.2.1 (we needed some
bugfixes ;)).

The current time line for tomorrow looks like:
 - 19:00 UTC => Tag and release LTSP 5.3
 - 20:00 UTC => PPA packages of LTSP 5.3 will be available in a PPA
for quick sanity testing
 - 21:00 UTC => LTSP 5.3 will be in Ubuntu 12.04

After that, at least for Ubuntu, we'll be in bugfix only mode, so as
long as only bugfixes are being pushed to the trunk, I'll simply
upload new versions. When we start getting new features in the trunk,
I'll instead start cherry-picking fixes one by one as they are
relevant for Ubuntu.

Maintainers of other distributions, it'd be great if you could spend
some time testing the current trunk on your distro and make sure it
works for you. Vagrant has been doing this for Debian with some pretty
good results, would be nice to have a release that at least mostly
works for everyone.
