I was unable to get it to build with Debian's patches, however I did try the /usr/sbin/mkelfImage binary unpacked from Debian's mkelfimage_2.7-5_i386.deb. It gets stuck at the same point as Fedora's mkelfImage build: checking if image is initramfs...it isn't (bad gzip magic numbers); looks like an initrd So it is likely that the problem is unique to Fedora's kernel. Perhaps our new 2.6.25-based kernel or gcc-4.3 used to build it.
