Atom Fat Clients

Hi All,

I'm still struggling on bad performances and crashes (Chromium and
Firefox) on ATOM D410 fat clients (2 GB RAM).

I'm using Ubuntu Mate 18.04 (kernel 4.15.0-43) 32 bit.

My server is virtual (ESXI); can this have impact on the performances?

Is there a way for improving the browsing performances? Perhaps
configuring cache locally and not on the server?

I've tried 64 bit (same kernel) but the fat clients hang during the boot
(no Ethernet connection), so I assume there is a problem on the driver
of the NIC (RTL8101/2/6E PCI Express Fast Gigabit).

Is there someone using such poor hardware?

Any hint is very appreciated since are 10 years that I'm working with
LTSP and I had proposed such solution to renovate some computer
classrooms, promising better performances than Windows! I don't want to
install Mate on every PCs, losing the great flexibility of LTSP!

Thank you!
