Hi All,

sure, the 2 Nics approach it's better if you need to isolate the clients.
I work in proxy mode since I've the complete control of the network with several Vlans through pfSense firewall.

Yup, you can tell dnsmasq your client ip addresses
(dhcp-mac=lab,00:1d:a1:b9:27:b3), and have it reply only to them
(dhcp-ignore=#lab).

2 NIC makes LTSP clients a separate subnet. E.g. if you have a printer
on a fat client, computers outside of the internal LAN won't be able to
see it (easily).
The server needs IP forwarding to give Internet to the clients.
If your clients are dual boot (e.g. Windows/LTSP), then the LTSP server
needs to be online for the Windows clients to access the Internet.

On the other hand, a 2 NIC setup also has some benefits:
* Real DHCP means that you can inform the clients about DNS from
dhcp.conf instead of lts.conf.
* You don't need to care what happens in the "outside" network. E.g.
some schools here put wifi/access points, the students connect with
their phones, the 254 IP leases get exhausted... and... the LTSP clients
then won't get an IP and won't boot, until the router is rebooted.

So, the 1-NIC setup makes a good default,
the 2-NIC setup is supported for those that suits them,
and there are no big drawbacks in either case, just minor configuration
differences.
